The Rocoto Arequipa Giant Red is certainly the largest of the Rocotos, very similar but even larger than the Giant Red, it takes its name from a beautiful city in Peru, where it evolved, which is called Arequipa. As you can see from the photos with my friend Quinzi, who made me discover this incredible variety, one fruit almost fills a hand, which makes it particularly suitable for the famous recipe of "Rocoto relleno" that is, Rocotos stuffed with rice and meat, furthermore, as you can see in a photo by my friend Paolo Genta, it is also particularly suitable for making tasty sauces.
Rocoto is the famous Andean chilli pepper with black seeds. It is a Capsicum Pubescens, known for thousands of years throughout Latin America, it is the Pepper that resists low temperatures best, in fact it survives down to 0 degrees. It can easily reach large sizes and live for more than 5 years.
As mentioned, it is particularly famous for being the only chili pepper in the world to have black seeds, which still makes it relatively rare and particularly sought after in Europe. Unfortunately, each plant produces few large fruits, thus making the production of seeds more difficult, increasing their value. It has a good but not excessive spiciness which stands at 50,000 Shu.
A sachet of this rarity contains 10 Isolated Black Seeds which will ensure a good harvest.
