Nettle

The Nettle possesses hairs which, when they break, release a fluid that causes burning and itching. The plant is known for its medicinal properties, for the preparation of dishes and, in the past, for its extensive use in the textile field.

Nettle has been used against arthritis since the time of the Ancient Egyptians, Roman soldiers used it to treat muscle fatigue and rheumatism. Modern studies prove the efficacy of the medicinal use of nettle against arthritis, rheumatism, allergic rhinitis and urinary tract infections.

In the culinary field it has been used for thousands of years, the still tender shoots and leaves are collected in spring, before flowering, cooking destroys the stinging hairs.
