The Long Pumpkin of Naples is a vigorous, creeping, very productive plant with large fruits between 15 and 30 kg, cylindrical in shape, with green skin and dark orange pulp, high organoleptic qualities and excellent shelf life. The pulp, firm and sweet, of excellent quality, is renowned as a condiment for pasta but also for being baked and for desserts.

The dialogue between Fedora and Concetta in Eduardo De Filippo's "Gennareniello" speaks volumes about the common perception of Pumpkin and Pasta and Pumpkin, a typical Neapolitan cuisine soup: cheap food, food for the miserable, yet always among the most loved, in the its simplicity.
