Rocked Salad

Rocket Salad is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Brassicaceae family, loved all over the world for its strong taste, it is used for salads, pizza, meat and risottos, a piece of advice to all cooking enthusiasts is to try to season pasta with a rocket-based pesto. On the island of Ischia, a rocket-based liqueur called Rucolino is prepared. Another curiosity is that rocket is widely used in Egypt as a side dish to fish dishes. Within the current debate on longevity and on some superfoods, from Turmeric to Moringa, which carry out a preventive action against many chronic diseases, helping us to live better and longer, there is an unsuspected, very common food, namely the Rocket, from amazing therapeutic properties. Already widespread in Roman times, it is known to be a panacea for the stomach and the entire digestive system, it was also considered an aphrodisiac. Rocket is grown up to an altitude of about 1000 meters, it grows well on any type of soil, preferably calcareous and arid, it is very sensitive to stagnant water.

Sowing takes place in spring, and then continues also in winter. In the latter case, care must be taken to cover the seeds with a little soil. Rocket leaves can be harvested throughout the year, especially if they are well developed and without flowers. The leaves and roots are the most used parts. The former can be used both fresh and frozen, while the roots are dried. The rocket leaves can be harvested about 6/7 times, this is its peculiarity, from May to October as there will be successive shoots, starting from a plant size of about 10 cm in height.
