Chiltepin Wild Pepper

The Chiltepin is a mythical pepper in the sense of ancient, there are those who claim that the genetics of the hottest chili peppers originated from this one which is native to the United States and Mexico. The name derives from the Nahuati and means "Chilli flea" in reference to the small size of the berries as large as a peanut. One of the most interesting features is the fact that it is a perennial that can reach 50 years of age. Their spiciness is variable but generally has a value between 20,000 Shu and 50,000 Shu. It is often found as a shrub and wild bush in the Mexican desert, in fact it is defined as a wild chilli pepper. It is used by drying it in the sun and then making spicy powders with it.

Chiltepin is part of the Capsicum Annum but with a variation that is defined as var. Gabriusculum, considered by many to be the closest wild subspecies to the common ancestor of all species, which evolved between Brazil and Bolivia.
